2023 Sorento

The Kia Telluride got a facelift for 2023, but the company hasn’t forgotten about its other three-row crossover. Quite the opposite as the automaker has announced a handful of updates for the 2023 Sorento.

The entry-level Sorento LX starts at $29,990 and this is a slight increase of $400. However, the extra cost is more than justified as the crossover now comes equipped with additional safety features including Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance, Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance, and Safe Exit Assist.

Moving up the trim ladder, the Sorento S gains a wireless smartphone charger and starts at $32,490 which is an increase of $100. The Sorento EX sees its base price climb $400 to $35,890 but it now comes equipped with an 8-way power passenger seat and a frameless rear view mirror.

The Sorento SX becomes more luxurious thanks to the addition of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, rain-sensing wipers, and power-folding side mirrors. Those are welcome additions, but they cause the crossover’s price to climb from $38,290 to $38,790.

The biggest changes occur to the range-topping Sorento SX Prestige, which costs $43,390. That’s a sizable jump, but the Kia now comes standard with all-wheel drive, a 115-volt power inverter, retractable rear sun shades, and HomeLink.

Engine options carryover and include a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 191 hp (142 kW / 194 PS) and 181 lb-ft (245 Nm) of torque. Customers can also get an excellent turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder developing 281 hp (210 kW / 285 PS) and 311 lb-ft (421 Nm) of torque.

The carryover 2023 Kia Sorento is entering a new model year with updated packaging across the trim lineup. The Kia Sorento was fully redesigned for the 2020 model year, and we had already heard rumors of a refresh coming for the 2023 model year. We don't see the facelift we expected, but there are new standard features across the lineup.

The bulk of the update to the Sorento are standard features. Now the list of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems includes Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance, Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance, and Safe Exit Assist in the base LX model. Higher trim levels are also gaining standard features that were previously optional, such as a wireless phone charger in the S, 8-way power front seats and frameless rearview mirror for the EX, and a 12.3-inch color digital instrument panel, power-folding mirrors, and rain-sensing wipers on the SX. Range-topping SX Prestige now comes standard with AWD and gloss black accents, and a 115-volt power inverter to charge household items.

Currently, the Sorento has four different powertrain options, and we wouldn’t expect that to change with a redesign. The base engine is a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 191 horsepower, with a turbocharged version of the engine available with 281 horsepower. There’s also a 1.6-liter hybrid with 227 horsepower that manages 37 MPG and a plug-in hybrid version of that engine with 261 horsepower that manages 79 MPGe.

2023 Sorento

The hybrid version of the 2023 Kia Sorento gets a trim level repackaging as the lineup drops the base S trim and adds the all-new top-of-the-line SX-P trim. The new trim comes standard with AWD with a center locking differential, and drive mode selection including Snow Mode. The SX-P rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, has LED fog lamps, a Smart Power Tailgate, 12.3-inch digital cluster, perforated leather seats, Bose audio, Navigation Smart Cruise Control-Curve, forward collision avoidance, surround view monitors, front and rear parking distance warning, and second-row captains chairs. The 2023 Kia Sorento Hybrid gains standard 8-way power in the front passenger seat and gets a frameless rearview mirror in the EX trim.

The Plug-in Hybrid version of the Kia Sorento has been streamlined into one range-topping SX-P trim. While the SX-P trim of the Kia Sorento PHEV was already well-appointed, it now comes with even more standard safety features and creature comforts, in line with the changes made to other Sorento trims.

Standard safety features of the Kia Sorento include automatic emergency braking with forward collision warning, cyclist detection, highway driving assist, speed limit assist, rear seat warnings, and automatic high beams among others, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, and parking sensors. Adaptive cruise control, reverse emergency braking, and a surround-view camera remain optional on base trims.
