Kia Sportage Reddit 2023

Well the car just came out so most problems won’t be seen for a bit.

Normally I don’t buy the first year of a redesigning, but since most of the components from the sportage 2023 are actually found within other models of the Kia line up… I went for it.

Car drives great, but my radio’s connection is awful all static… will have to bring that into the dealership.

Here is my problem...

I love the fuel efficiency of the Kia Sportage Hybrid, but I am a bit disappointed in the options for the interior/exterior. If I choose to order the regular 2023 Kia Sportage, I would elect to get the Wolf Gray (I love the faux wood interior), with the black quilted seats. The Hybrid unfortunately does not have the Wolf Gray color, which is by far my favorite. I don't mind the white exterior option in the Hybrid, but I am not crazy about it as I have always had white SUVs in the past and I am ready for a change. I also don't like the interior quite as much (no faux wood trim, and it looks like the top half of the interior is white?).

With the options I would choose, they would actually not be too far apart in price (around $200), and I could order either through my local dealer as of today (I called to check).

So - I am essentially torn between getting the car that I like the aesthetic of way more, or the car that is far more gas-friendly. (For reference, I drive around 11,000 per year, mainly city driving to and from work everyday and hour-long trips most weekends).

Whether it’s worth it depends on your needs and means.

But if you shop around, it seems to be the best value in the category in terms of what you get for what you pay.

Go look at other brands and compare. Lots of them the price jump for hybrid is big. Or the car is more plainly equipped. Or the warranty is abbreviated. Or the car is ugly.

Can’t remember which instrument cluster is on that trim, but biggest hate we have is the ones we purchased have the numerals only faked instrument cluster. It bugs me every drive that the car doesn’t have real gauges. But trims with a better cluster were about $8,000 more so I tell myself each time it was a smart call.

I’m a little disappointed at how much cost and corner cutting Kia does now versus the past. You can tell where they’ve economized. But again, what else is out there at the price?

How they’ve done the steering now, it feels much like a Honda/Toyota where a finger can turn the wheel with little resistance. Problem is I prefer the old firmer, truck chassis, German feel. But most of the population probably prefers the light touch steering.

The styling has some irks, like it’s too busy on the outside and too much piano black gloss inside.

The one worry is it being all new model, they’re whipping them out quickly, supply chain probably means quality standards are low, so I’m worried traditional Hyundai/Kia reliability will be impacted. Mitigate this by building enhanced warranty into your cost.

If you’re looking at this vehicle, also check out the twin Hyundai Tucson. The cars are basically the same but Hyundai makes different style and $/trim choices that some people prefer. Not sure we could ever own this generation of Tucson just because the body styling looks like an Aztec to me.
