4K OLED laptop Reddit

Hey yall-- does anyone have any longer term experience editing with laptops that have OLED screens? It seems like the nature of premiere UI being very static would inevitably cause burn in after a year or two, but so many midrange to higher end PC laptops (such as the XPS) oled is the only option if you want a higher than 1080P screen, which is super frustrating.

I recently got a non-oled laptop but it already has an issue so I wanted to exchange it for something with better build quality, but my other options have been lacking.

I'd get a new mac because I love the mac build quality and displays, but I would still want the option to install windows which you can't do anymore...

GPU + GPU RAM: n/a

2- Editing Software

Know this has been asked before, but I still can't make up my mind. At the moment I have both the slim 7 carbon and slim 7 pro. OLED on the carbon, and 2.8K ips on the pro.

Performance aside, the carbon is an overall better laptop. Lighter, better build quality, better keyboard, better battery and better screen. The only thing holding me back is the longevity of the OLED panel.

How big is the risk of burn-in or other OLED degradation in laptops today? How much will the laptops lifespan be affected?

Moving up from the 15 inch 4k oled 3080 to this bad boy and I’m a bit disappointed the got rid of the oled and touch panel from GamingLaptops

I impulse purchased a 15.6 ASUS K15 today for around $830. I never expected an OLED Laptop in the sub-1k price bracket so bought it instantly.

It is a 100% DCIP3 panel with 400 Nits typical and upto 600 Nits maximum (Display HDR 600). https://www.asus.com/in/Laptops/For-Home/Vivobook/Vivobook-15-OLED-K513-11th-gen-intel/

However I want to use this device for 5-6 years (my university course), and I am worried about the longevity of the device.

My use case will be 40-50 hours a week of coding, web browsing and the occasional YT video or Netflix show. I intend to use it at around 150 NITS of brightness (indoor use), in dark mode all the time, auto hide taskbar, and enable all the oled saver methods (pixel refresh, screensavers etc. given in the Asus app).

This is my first OLED device which is not a smartphone.

Should I be worried about the longevity and reliability of my device. Please help me out.

Thanks!

A different post to the majority of TV oleds here haha but I'm thinking to buy a new laptop and the Dell xps 15 comes in two options. One is a normal 4K display and another 4k OLED. The original 4k option already has a stunning display and is quite a bit cheaper too so I am not sure if the OLED would be worth it.

I've already got a C9 so know how good an OLED is on a big screen watching various films and TV shows.

How are your experiences with using OLED on an laptop? My use is going to be across video editing on After Effects and Premier Pro, Internet browsing such as YouTube, and the odd Netflix here and there.

Have you experienced any burn-in or having headache? Or any negative experience with oled in general?

I'm looking at buying a HP Spectre x360 14 with the OLED but I am a bit worried about burn in. I want to be able to use the computer for at least 4 years and I also don't want to keep the taskbar hidden as I find it really annoying. I am generally indoors so I probably wont use the brightness over 50% very often. It will mostly be used for office, excel and chrome work. Will an OLED laptop last 4 years without burn in even if I don't take drastic methods to prevent it (except for screensaver)?

[Edit]: Thanks for the replies everyone. The reason I was considering an OLED display for office work was because it was the only Spectre with a 1 TB SSD in stock. Based on your suggestions I've decided to go with an LCD display instead, even though it only had a 512 GB hard drive. As I want to be able to leave my display static for hours and not have to worry about it I think I will wait for the technology to mature a bit more. Thanks!

sorry if this has been asked alot :/

I was planning on getting the Razer Blade 15 with the oled screen. It has an Intel processor but I've heard that AMD is better? (I'm sorry I'm not that educated)

I'm going to be using the laptop for video editing, color grading, watching movies, light gaming, etc so the oled and 4k is pretty important (shooting with 4k camera)

I was just wondering if there are any good AMD laptops with an OLED (4k) screen.

I'm not concerned about battery life, burn in, etc. (I've gotten use to my current laptop being horrible at everything so anything will be better haha)

thanks for any help!

Hello r/OLED.

I'm planning on getting a new laptop and I'm wondering whether I should get an OLED.

This would be my first time using an OLED.

Also, I would not be able to get the Best Buy Burn-in protection.

Other than the risks of burn-in, are there any other downsides to OLED laptops?

I would be using this laptop for school work (note-taking, writing essays, etc.), as well as content consumption (movies, tv, streaming, youtube, etc.), and general use (no gaming), how big is the burn-in risk?

Thank you for all the help!
