The Naruto franchise remains one of the most popular and followed series in the entire manga, anime industry; with an army of fans constantly patrolling the internet for the latest news.

Today, October 27, the Naruto and Boruto communities have been sent into a frenzy thanks to a mysterious announcement from the official Twitter page.

Whilst fans around the world speculate on what this mysterious announcement could entail, we breakdown everything we know so far about what this new teaser could be and when more information should be released.

Mystery Naruto announcement teased for Jump Festa

Only a few hours ago, October 27, the official Naruto Twitter page shared a mysterious post that simply read, “2022.12.17 START #NARUTO.”

This is referencing the Naruto panel which is set to take place on the Jump Super Main Stage at the upcoming Jump Festa 2023 event in Japan on Saturday, December 17.

The post was then reshared by various popular anime Twitter pages, including the Unofficial Shonen Jump News account which stated “NARUTO seems to be teasing a new announcement on December 17th at Jump Festa 2023.”

“An announcement regarding NARUTO will be revealed on December 17 at Jump Festa 2023!” – AnimeTV.

A translation of the performer comments only furthered the speculation, with Yuko Sanpei (Boruto Uzumaki) reportedly stating, “What kind of Boruto and Naruto information will pop up again this year? I’ll be waiting anxiously along with you all, Let’s enjoy it to the fullest!”

“We’re going to be at the Jump Festa Super Stage this year again! I hear that it’ll be the first time in a while since the old Team 7 squad will be present, so I’m looking forward to having a great time with you all!” – Noriaki Sugiyama, via Abdul_S17.

Jump Festa is an annual event and can be thought of as the ‘End of Year’’ party for the anime industry, with live performances, stage panels, Q & A’s, meet-and-greets, and official merchandise stores from across the world.

However, the biggest parts of every Jump Festa event are the announcements that are made; mainly concerning upcoming theatrical movies, manga adaptations, and series renewals – Naruto fans are already theorizing about what this mystery announcement could be.

Fans brainstorm on possible Naruto teaser

Within minutes of the post going live on social media, there were countless responses from excited fans theorizing as to what this mystery announcement could be about.

From all of the responses we can see across the various social media posts, it appears that fans are thinking that this announcement will be either a theatrical movie or video game; with the more speculative prediction being for a reboot of the original series.

The last Naruto movie came out in 2015 and with the recent resurgence of anime films, a new cinema project could be a lucrative option for the franchise. Recent anime movies include Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, One Piece: Red, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission, and Black Clover: The Movie (upcoming).

Alternatively, Naruto video games have always been popular amongst the community, with six different game series having been released since 2013: Clash of Ninja, Ninja Council, Ninja Destiny, Path of the Ninja, Uzumaki Chronicles, and Ultimate Ninja. There have also been two Boruto video games so far.

Whilst a complete reboot of the Naruto anime would cause the internet to implode, it perhaps might not be as far-fetched as many fans imagine. In early October, Pierrot released a 10-minute-long ‘Road to Naruto’ video that showed what the original series would look like with modern animation techniques.

With more than 13 million views on YouTube, could this have persuaded the production studio to commit a vast amount of resources to a full reboot?
