Call of Duty has a lot of titles under its belt, from the original Call of Duty series to Modern Warfare, Black Ops, and several other standalone games. So, with all of these variations, how big is the Call of Duty player base?

While we don’t have concrete data for all entries in the Call of Duty franchise, we have data on the three wildly popular online entries Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Call of Duty: Warzone. The data indicates that in the last 30 days a total of 118.234.190 players have been recorded between the three Call of Duty games. Call of Duty: Mobile is the most popular and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the least. At least 400 million people have at least played a Call of Duty game at least once. Unfortunately, this number was recorded in 2021, and since then, Activision has not revealed any numbers regarding the popular franchise in terms of a collective player base.

In this article, I have compiled data from several sites and reports that will help us see how some of the Call of Duty titles have been doing in recent years. By the looks of it, the franchise is still doing well and trying to adapt to the time by releasing games that appeal to their old and new audience.

According to a report, Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision, said that at least 250 million people have played any variant of Call of Duty at least once in their lives. But a new report states that the game has at least 400 million sales as of 2021. Call of Duty has always had a dedicated following, but their numbers probably spiked this high when they released Call of Duty: Mobile and Warzone.

While we cannot keep track of all games in the franchise we can keep track of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Call of Duty: Warzone player counts. The data indicates that the average number of players in the last 30 days for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was 8,105,555.

The number goes insanely high for Call of Duty Mobile which managed to hit an average of 56,898,080 players over the course of the last 30 days.

The numbers for Warzone are somewhat similar hitting the 53,230,555 players mark in the last month.

As you can see between the three games (CoD: Modern Warfare, CoD: Mobile, and CoD: Warzone) there were 118.234.190 active players in the last 30 days alone. That number is incredible, but then again Call of Duty is among the best-selling gaming franchises in the world.

What’s the maximum number of players per day?

Again, we’re going to split our data between the three games as these are the only games that we have somewhat reliable data on. The maximum player for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare recorded in a single day of the period of the last thirty days was 806,503.00 players.

Again the number for Call of Duty: Mobile shows us the real extent of the franchise’s reach, with the player count peaking at an incredible 6,638,109 players in a single day.

Call of Duty: Warzone shows 3,548,704 players recorded in a single day. To better grasp the data here’s a table below showing peak players recorded in a single day for all three games in the last couple of months.

Once again the data clearly indicates that currently. Call of Duty mobile is the most popular game in the franchise. At least when it comes to online play.

Call of Duty player count by country

When it comes to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare it’s safe to say that the majority of players come from the United States the number is standing at 31.18%, followed by the United Kingdom at 5.60%, Germany at 4.85%, Canada at 4.06% and Brazil at Brazil.

The numbers for Warzone show us a similar picture with the United States taking the lead once again at 22.22%. However, the other leading countries are different with China following the US with 5.85% players, the United Kingdom following with 4.71%, Brazil with 4.61%, and Germany with 3.40%.

While we don’t have an exact number for Call of Duty: Mobile, we have some numbers that relate to “all other” Call of Duty games provided to us by PlayerCounter. The numbers indicate once again that the United States plays Call of Duty the most standing at 18.92% of players, followed by the United Kingdom at 14.18%, Germany at 7.81%, Brazil at 6.54%, and Canada at 3.93%.

All these data clearly show that the Call of Duty franchise is the most popular in the United States.

Due to the different variations of Call of Duty, it’s hard to determine what device people prefer to play on. In addition, Activision has yet to leak information regarding the number of players by device each Call of Duty game has. The only device we are sure about is the fact that Call of Duty: Mobile can only be played by Android and iOS users.

An independent study by Dexerto estimated that players prefer to play Warzone on the console. The study says 42.1% use PlayStations, 25.6% use Xbox, and 28.4% the PC. Meanwhile, 3.9% only represent the Call of Duty: Mobile numbers.

While we have the date for Warzone, it’s hard to determine the numbers or the percentage for other games. However, people seem to gravitate towards the console version of Call of Duty titles more.

How Many people have left Call of Duty?

When it comes to people that left Call of Duty, we don’t have much to show since all three tracked games show an increasing player base trend. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare managed to gain 2.72% of players in the last thirty days following a couple of months of downward trends. You can see the data for the last couple of months in the table below.

Call of Duty: Mobile shows a slight increase in the player base, however, the numbers don’t seem to be as drastic compared to Modern Warfare. You can see the date in the table below

Call of Duty: Warzone shows a similar trend to Call of Duty: Mobile, you can check out the data below for the last couple of months.

The data might indicate that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the fastest-growing Call of Duty game, but such a conclusion is misleading. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has the smallest fanbase among the three entries in the series, so any amount of players both leaving and coming will reflect on a much higher percentage. Call of Duty: Mobile is according to all stats the most popular of the three entries.

This can be attributed to the accessibility of the game to the larger player base.

How Much money has Call of Duty made?

Currently, the franchise looks like it fell short due to the unpredicted low sales they had from Call of Duty Vanguard. Activision only said they had a revenue loss but never gave readers the exact number this shooter franchise made. However, a news report managed to get a hold of the amount last year.

According to VGChartz, CEO Bobby Kotick revealed that the franchise has earned $27 billion in revenue. The $27 billion refers to the money generated from the game sales, downloadable content, microtransactions, and several other paid needs a player would want.

Meanwhile, the mobile app seems to be doing well year after year. According to Statista, Call of Duty Mobile has amassed 991 million U.S. dollars since its release, according to the same report from May 2022, the game generated around 21.9 million U.S. dollars in IAP revenue alone.

While the game can be enjoyed by almost anyone with a smartphone due to it being free to play, several players choose to purchase in-game items and content to have a better game experience.

What are the canceled titles of Call of Duty?

Not all the game concepts made it out to their releases due to some issues in the company. Call of Duty: Combined Forces was one of them. The game was the supposed sequel to Call of Duty: Finest Hour. But the company faced several legal issues with Spark Unlimited that caused the game’s development to slow down. They also had a few production problems. Eventually, the concept was trashed, and none of us ever got to see the game.

Call of Duty: Vietnam is another game fans never got to play. The game is set in the Vietnam War. The game was already in its development phase under Sledgehammer Games but had to stop. Apparently, Infinity Ward needed help finishing, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, so developers needed to shift their focus to the other game.

There are other titles of canceled games, and we’ll never know how these games will affect the numbers of Call of Duty’s player base. The company seems to be in hot water right now due to low sales, but knowing the franchise, it’ll be some time before it’ll entirely go away.
