Is Final Fantasy X and x2 the same?

3.0 out of 5 stars Only X is on the card, X-2 is DLC only for this Switch version

When I heard that Square Enix was going to release FFX and FFX-2 onto one game card for the Switch, I was super excited to hear that I would be getting two games on one cart. Never had the chance to play those games when they were first released, thought it would be a good time to play it, and be on my way.I get the game with the expectation that Square Enix was able to fit two massive games onto one card with all the other related content, for the price they were asking for. But low and behold!....Upon opening the case up...Square Enix cheaped out by giving you a stupid DLC code for FFX-2. WTH?!So technically, you own a physical copy of FFX, then forced to download FFX-2.FFX is still great, FFX-2 is still an outstanding sequel to an already great game. Don't get me wrong. But I can't give this compilation a high score. Cheaping out is no excuse. If you advertise that two full games are going to be on the cart (for the massive company you are Square Enix) with all the other advertised content, it has be there. Because not everyone has a outstanding net connections like those who live in Japan. I would recommend this to those who have a Switch. Yet I can't without the word of warning to those who live in places with horrible bandwidth.Square Enix in Japan ought to have taken that into consideration. If they are listening (which I doubt it), please be considerate of those who don't have your kind of net connections.

tl;dr: A feature complete version of a classic, ready for both modern players and nostalgic fans.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is exactly what it says on the tin. It provides what may be considered one of the definitive editions of a game that came out over 15 years ago. The ability to play Final Fantasy X on the go, and pause whenever necessary, makes this ideal for anyone whether they be playing in docked or handheld mode.

The main game included in this version is based off of the Japanese International release, which included additional sidequests (i.e. Dark Aeons and Penance), in addition to changes in the Sphere Grid, allowing for more customization of your character stats. This release also includes all of the released DLC for the first and second games. Of note, Final Fantasy X-2 is included as a Digital Download only, and can be unlocked with an included code. The physical cartridge does cont contain the game data.

Compared to the original PS2 versions, the visuals are stunning, with some tweaks to the character models for Tidus and Yuna, to better conform to their current incarnations in other Square-Enix properties. You can choose to use either the original musical score, or an enhanced one, and that choice can be made on the fly. The load times are very short, though at times still notable. Compared to other platforms, I've noticed considerably shorter load times in almost every situation, though this mostly applies to Docked mode, with the physical cartridge.

Notably absent from this release are the speed up function and the option to change languages. There is no option to speed up the action, such as in the PS4/XB1 and PC versions, and no support for mods, as in the PC release. If this is a deal breaker, look for one of the other releases for that. It also is solely in English, with no option to change back to original Japanese.

Pick this one up if you haven't played it in a long time, or never got around to it back in the day. Also a great introduction to the wider world of Final Fantasy and some of the conventions that still exist to this day.

This is one more episode in a long line of Squenix cheaping out on their cash-grab rehashes of their classic titles.

I originally skipped Final Fantasy X on the PS2 because i had hated FF8 so much that i just ignored square as a company for a while (i also missed the wonderful FF9, sadly...), then one day in 2005, i found FF X-2 for $7 in the bargain basement bin of Gamestop...

so, i grabbed a copy, and i preceded to not ever play it until the PS3 came out... so i got to play the first ever "HD remastered" version of FF X-2 as my reintroduction to the final fantasy series (of which i had been a fan since the original 8 bit games)... my version being remastered on the fly by the amazing powers of the 60 GB PS3!!

I LOVED this game! LOVED it! it was vexed when i went back and read all the horrible reviews... why?

anyway... fast forward to 2019, i played through the first chapter of FFX-2 on steam, last year... complete with japanese VO, which was a vastly superior experience to playing the PS2 on PS3 version of the original release...

Then i heard that it was coming to the nintendo switch, so i was like... ok.. i'll put this on pause, and i will get the switch version and play it through from the beginning...

when the switch version came out, i pulled the trigger without even thinking...

then i popped it in my switch... the first thing i noticed was that FF X-2 wasn't even on the cartridge? like wtf? how are you gonna sell me a cartridge game when the game isn't even on the cartridge?

like, i've got some ocean front property in Arizona, if you'd like to buy that? how about it squenix? how about it???

Then i was like, alright, well i was gonna start by playing FFX for the first time..

and i've seen the youtube videos

<spoiler>
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
</spoiler>

I know what the english voice overs are like for FFX....

and guess what?? there is NO option for japanese voices...

like wtf?

and guess what else...?

there is no option to even use my SD card... this game seems to only be able to access internal memory of the switch?

like WTF????

now one thing i will say... the game is BEAUTIFUL!!!

but guess what else?

there is a version of the same game which was released in southeast asia which contains not only the japanese voice overs, but also contains BOTH GAMES ON THE SAME CARTRIDGE!!!???!!!

A talking cat !?!

like, how is this possible?

squenix?

you can put both entire games, and both languages on the same cartridge?

yeah, anyway, this cart went back on the first train to amazon HQ...

i'll be importing the southeast asian version...

and i suggest that if either japanese voices or ACTUALLY GETTING THE GAMES YOU PAID FOR ON THE ACTUAL CARTRIDGE mean anything to you, then you should do the same thing!!

Game came today and is wrapped in shrink wrap. Bought new and this is not the type of wrapping a new switch game normally has. The code wasn't used but made me worried.

My first rpg game on ps2, and now it’s on Nintendo Switch, I must have it. Hard to find in stores, good thing Amazon has it. Paid extra to have it same day, soon as I got it, I start playing it. Oh memories! I miss playing this. This is my first Final Fantasy game, and I love it. My favorite Tidus!

As someone who never played ff back in the day, I think this game's appeal now is 100% nastolgia. The graphics are just ok and there is way more "storyline " than actual gameplay. I felt like I was watching a bad movie and moving the character every now and then and doing battles, which were fun but got repetitive pretty quickly. I would not recommend this game to anyone who is wanting to try ff for the first time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great port with one glaring issue

It’s an excellent port of both games but in Squares infinite wisdom they decided to not only make X2 digital for the NA release, they also made it mandatory to have the cart inserted to even play it. With the Vita release you could still play X2 without X. Not an overly horrible problem as your still getting two good games for a relatively decent price, but if you decide to sell the cart you lose out on both games and half the resale value.

If you’re looking for both games on the cart you’d have to import the Asian version, which still has English language if your switch is set to English as the default.

Overall it’s a good purchase especially if you’re a fan of FF games and haven’t played these before or are looking to play them on the go. If you can look past this odd choice by Square and Nintendo for the way the digital copy is tied to the cart I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2 Magníficos juegos con pequeños inconvenientes

The nostalgia is too much!!! I used to play this game with my sister way back on PS2. I’ve just received my copy of this Nintendo Switch edition in the mail yesterday and I’m already hooked all over again. It plays beautifully and sounds amazing. I have no idea what all the negative reviews are about, but clearly they have nothing to do with the game itself—so, if you’re hesitating to make this purchase because of them, don’t!!! I wish I had bought these long-time favs a lot sooner. This is a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️-gaming experience you will never forget!!
