Daily Itinerary:
Day 1: July 14th – Friday – Welcome to Thonon Les Bains!
Arrive in the afternoon at the Thonon Les Bains train station. We will spend the first 4 nights of the tour in Thonon, a beautiful village along the southern shores of Lake Geneva. Our hotel is within walking distance of the station, and we’ll be there to greet you. We’ll get you set up on your bikes and give you a short local riding route to enjoy if you wish. Your welcome dinner is included at the hotel this evening, and we’ll have an orientation meeting.
Day 2: July 15th – Saturday – Ride to Morzine for Stage 14 Finish
Our Tour de France tour first riding day begins with a ride to the ski village of Morzine for the finish of Stage 14. We are also scoping out other places to view the stage along the major climbs of the stage. Dinner is back at the hotel in Thonon Les Bains.
Day 3: July 16th – Sunday – Stage 15 Depart Viewing at Le Gets
The area where we’re staying is absolutely beautiful, and perfect for riding. Quiet roads, typically beautiful weather. The hotel is approximately 55km from the stage start, and includes some amazing climbs with views of Lake Geneva. There will be options to ride back to Thonon after we watch the stage rollout. Dinner is on your own in Thonon Les Bains. There are many options around town.
Day 4: July 17th – Monday – Rest Day Ride
The pro riders will be “taking a day off” but we will not. We’ll enjoy another day riding in the area with the destination in the mountains to the east, near Switzerland. It is also Market Day in Thonon! You’ll have the chance to browse the village streets and shop the local wares. Dinner is included and at our hotel in Thonon Les Bains.
Day 5: July 18th – Tuesday – Time Trial Viewing and Transfer to Albertville
We will get up and drive to where today’s time trial will be contested. Conveniently, the TT will be raced at the midpoint of our transfer to Albertville. We’ll station ourselves towards the end of the stage route, near the hills and where the riders will be cooling down after their efforts. On to Albertville, we’ll be staying at a hotel that we’ve known well since 2004. Ask us the story of why it is close to our hearts! Dinner is included at our hotel.
Day 6: July 19th – Wednesday – Stage 17 in Courchevel!
This will be a very unique and special finish. The stage will finish up the valley from Albertville, past Courchevel on the Col de La Loze. the La Loze is a small path that was opened in 2019, and motor vehicles are not permitted. We get up the mountain early for stage viewing. Dinner is again included and at our hotel.
Day 7: July 20th – Thursday – Stage 18 Start in Moutiers
Another day! Another stage! We will ride to the stage start in Moutiers, up the valley from Albertville. We’ll enjoy the rider sign-in, and watch them roll out. We can continue our ride and enjoy the great roads of the area. If you wish for a day by the pool, the race route passes very near our hotel! Dinner is included at the hotel in Albertville.
Day 8: July 21st – Friday – Ride over the Col de la Madeleine
Today we ride to St Jean de Maurienne over Col de la Madeleine. The Madeleine has been featured in the TdF 25 times, and called “beautiful, but heartbreaking”. Dinner is on your own in St Jean de Maurienne. There are many options around town.
Day 9: July 22nd – Saturday – Local ride including the Col du Glandon and others.
Today we can enjoy some of the most beautiful climbs of the Alps, all of which have been featured in past Tours de France. Options include the Col du Glandon, Lacets de Montvernier, and the Croix de Fer. Our farewell dinner is included at a restaurant in town.
At the top of the Glandon!
Day 10: July 23rd – Au Revoir!
Departure day! There is a good train station in St. Jean, which is a TGV stop. You can easily catch a train to quickly take you back to the city you flew into or beyond! Bon voyage! We hope you enjoyed your tour with Outfitter Bicycle Tours!
