Hi! @Meesha1, Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better. So try updating the BIOS and chipset drivers on the PC to the latest version using HP support assistant and check if it helps. Refer this article to know more information about using the HP support assistant. Click Here Try the steps recommended below. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and X at the same time to open the quick-access menu. Click Device Manager. In Batteries section, right-click on your battery driver, commonly it’s Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. Then click Uninstall device. Restart the PC the drivers would automatically install again. Run Power Troubleshooter. On Cortana, enter Troubleshooter then select Troubleshooting.
Click Improve power usage to open the window, then click Next.
This should run the troubleshooter, and can fix any detected issues. You may try restarting your computer and charge your battery again. Also, Try performing a hard reset on your laptop and check if it helps. -
Turn off the computer. -
Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station. -
Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers. -
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer. -
Remove the battery from the battery compartment. -
With the battery and power cord unplugged, press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors. -
Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the laptop, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices. -
Press the Power button to turn on the computer. The computer starts normally or a startup menu opens. NOTE: If your computer does not start after pressing the Power button, then a power reset did not resolve the startup issue. SeeAdditional resources for further troubleshooting steps. -
If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.

- Do a hard reboot, remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then try charging it again.
- If it will still not work, uninstall/reinstall the battery driver from Device Manager.
- Next to try if it will still not work is to test the AC adapter.
- Remove the battery off the laptop then connect just the AC adapter and see if it will stay on.
- While the laptop is on put the battery back in and see if it will charge normally.
- Do also try doing a battery calibration that may also help.
