Trong các đề thi tiếng Anh đặc biệt là với đề thi TOEIC thường sẽ xuất hiện các bẫy chọn tính từ đuôi ING và ED. Để nắm rõ hơn quy tắc dùng 2 loại tính từ này bạn hãy tham khảo bài viết này của 4Life English Center (e4Life.vn). 

Động từ dạng V-ing và V-ed/V3 cũng có thể sử dụng như một tính từ.

Vị trí của tính từ V-ing và V-ed/V3 trong câu:

Chức năng: bổ nghĩa cho danh từ

Ví dụ:

Broken window: Cửa sổ bị vỡ

Falling leaves: Lá rơi

• Đứng sau “tobe” hoặc các động từ liên kết

Ví dụ:

Her English is amazing – tiếng Anh của cô ấy đáng kinh ngạc

He became interested in collecting stamps – Anh ấy trở nên hứng thú với việc sưu tập tem

Ví dụ:

She finds the book boring

Cô ấy thấy quyển sách chán phèo

2. Phân biệt tính từ đuôi ING và đuôi ED

2.1. Tính từ đuôi ING

Cách dùng tính từ đuôi ING:

• Tính từ đuôi ing dùng để miêu tả tính cách, tính chất và đặc điểm của người sự vật, hiện tượng.
• Thường được sử dụng khi danh từ mà nó bổ nghĩa thực hiện chịu trách nhiệm về hành động
• Động từ thường là nội động từ (không có tân ngữ) và thời của động từ là thời tiếp diễn

Ví dụ:

The film that I watched on TV last night is interesting. (Bộ phim mà tôi đã xem trên TV tối qua thật thú vị.)

Trong câu trên, tính từ Interesting dùng để diễn tả tính chất của bộ phim.

2.2. Tính từ đuôi ED

Cách dùng tính từ đuôi ED:

• Khi danh từ mà nó bổ nghĩa là đối tượng nhận sự tác động của hành động
• Dùng để diễn tả cảm xúc, cảm nhận của con người, con vật về một sự vật, hiện tượng, sự việc nào đó.
• Câu có tính từ ở dạng –ed thường có nguồn gốc từ những câu bị động.
• Tính từ tận cùng bằng đuôi –ed cho bạn biết một người nào đó cảm thấy như thế nào về một cái gì đó

Ví dụ:

Are you interested in buying a car? (Bạn có quan tâm đến việc mua một chiếc xe hơi?)

Did you meet anyone interesting at the party? (Bạn có gặp ai thú vị trong bữa tiệc không?)

Everyone was surprised that he passed the examination. (Mọi người đều ngạc nhiên rằng anh ấy đã thi đậu.)

It was quite surprising that he passed the examination. (Điều khá ngạc nhiên là anh ấy đã thi đậu.)

3. Một số cặp tính từ tận cùng ING và ED

4. Mẹo phân biệt tính từ đuôi ING và ED

Có một cách rất đơn giản để phân biệt đuôi ing và đuôi ed như sau:

• Phân biệt đuôi ing thì cho dù là danh từ sau (person} chỉ người hay vật thì hãy lưu ý luôn chọn tính từ dạng “ing”.

Ví dụ 1: He is an ________ person

• Khi các câu xuất hiện 2 chủ thể khác nhau ví dụ “he” và “me” ở đây, “he” tác động vào “me” và một dấu hiệu nữa chính là động từ “make” động từ tác động (làm cho, khiến) thì hãy chọn tính từ đuôi “ed” nhé.
• Một lưu ý nữa là khi thấy trong đề thi xuất hiện dạng thức giới từ đi kèm ví dụ như: “I am interested in him” thì chọn tính từ dạng “ed”.

Chọn dạng đúng của từ trong ngoặc.

7. She’s feeling (depress) _______, so I’m suggesting that she should go home, drink warm water, and go to bed early with (relax) _______ music.
8. She got really (annoy) _______ yesterday because someone threw rubbish in front of her house.
9. The journey was (bore) _______! Twenty hours by train made us (exhaust) _______.
10. He looked very (confuse) _______ when we told him we had to change the flight because of him.

Chọn đáp án đúng

1. We were all (horrifying/horrified) when we heard about the disaster.
2. Are you (interesting/interested) in football?
3. I had never expected to be offered the job. I was really (amazing/amazed) when I was offered it.
4. I enjoyed the football match. It was quite (exciting/excited).
