How often should you exfoliate your body Reddit

I have recently started following r/skincareaddiciton, and I've read the Beginner's Skincare Routine and many user posts about how not to over-exfoliate.

It's the first time in my life I have clear skin, and I exfoliate with a Clarisonic type brush 1-2x per day... and if I don't, I break out!

I started using CeraVe cleanser and AM/PM moisturizer, + Tazorac religiously each day. The Tazorac initially dried my skin out and it peeled like crazy. At first I didn't exfoliate because everything I read told me not to, but then I couldn't take it anymore and started exfoliating and it worked like a miracle.

So it got me wondering if exfoliating works differently for each person like using products works differently for each person, or if you really aren't supposed to exfoliate as often as I do and my success is just abnormal.

Thoughts?

Hey everyone! Just curious what you all do for exfoliating and moisturizing.

Currently, I've been doing both every day or second day, but I'm wondering if this is really the best approach.

I'm pretty hairy, so I get ingrowns fast if I'm not doing it regularly. Often do you fellow femme do it?

So I shower every day and use a salux cloth. I pretty much scrub my body clean of dead skin cells, which I seem to have a crapton of and is also the primary reason why I take 20-30 min showers. Is this too harmful? I haven't felt anything, but I don't want this to be something I'll notice later on. Like I can't imagine not scrubbing my body. I don't understand how people can just take a 5-10 min shower and just use a bar soap to clean themselves.

You sound like the main character in GATTACA.

I'm just wondering if the reason you're always flaky is because of the 20-30 minute showers.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time.

I don't take hot showers, but why would that matter? I'm not particularly flaky, but if I were to rub my towel on say my arm or chest, you could see dead skin being rubbed off. I usually find a good clean to be when that is not the case.

Your skin is probably flaky because you take 20-30 minute showers. Keep it to about 10 minutes with warm (not hot) water. You don't need to scrub your skin every day. Try every other day.

Yes! You are destroying your 'horny layer' -- google is your friend

It's just some dead skin, I don't think I'm going in that far.

working on redness now | I AM NOT AMERICAN

I don't shower everyday but I feel better if I scrub. (Recently had several months where I didn't have a scrub) Otherwise the dead skin rolls off anyway when towelling off DDDD:::: if I was showering everyday though I probably wouldn't do it...

It disgusts me when I see that and I usually associate that with a poor scrub (if I saw dead skin rolling off).

Maybe cut back on the scrubbing a bit. I use a salux cloth (love) every day and lightly scrub my entire body. It takes less than five minutes.

I do it and I haven't seen any negative side effects from it.

Man, I will admit that I am a lazy motherfucker. (It is one of many basic tenets that you might not have known about, but is undeniable nonetheless.) Really sticking to a regimen is difficult as hell. But as I have been reinforcing my sunscreen habit recently, I've noticed that holy shit I have so much dead skin everywhere and it's making it impossible to apply anything to the skin that isn't pilling up under my fingers. IT'S REALLY GROSS GUYS. Just this morning (Wednesday) I went to rub some SPF on my face, when it started to slough off into my hands. See, I thought I'd be in the clear because I red Stridex'd on Monday (I haven't used it anywhere near daily because of how astringent it can be), but nope! I had to start fresh and take that much more time to get ready, because my skin cells won't stop reproducing on top of each other. They're crack bunnies, filthy flaky crack bunnies.

So yeah, how much abrasive maintenance does your skin need to not be disgusting?

How often is it OK to exfoliate your body?

For most people, body exfoliation 2–3 times each week is enough to keep your skin in top condition. To exfoliate properly, make sure the water in your shower is warm—this will help open your pores. Then, gently scrub your exfoliating body scrub in circles over your skin.

Is exfoliating 3 times a week too much?

Most experts advise that you exfoliate two to three times per week — as long as your skin can handle it. Chemical exfoliants tend to be fine to use more regularly. Physical methods, on the other hand, may be too abrasive to use multiple times a week.

Is it okay to exfoliate your body everyday?

Most people probably shouldn't exfoliate every day, as this can cause your skin to become dry and irritated. Depending on your skin type and the exfoliant you choose, you should exfoliate once or twice per week.

Is it OK to exfoliate every 2 days?

Exfoliating too often can strip the skin on your face of its natural oils and lead to breakouts. Too much scrubbing may also cause your skin to become irritated. Most skin care experts agree that exfoliating your face once or twice a week is best for most skin types.
