She acknowledged knowing of the two incidents. At a meeting conducted on Zoom on October 15th, 2022, attended by 160 CLRG registered teachers and adjudicators from Ireland, the minutes of which have been widely circulated, Margaret O’Loughlin, a member of An Coiste Faire at the time of the Glasgow incident, corroborated what I had alleged. To quote the minutes… “Margaret said that the contents of Ronan’s letter are not new to CLRG. Margaret said that the incident in question was investigated at Coiste Faire level, recommendations were made to the Executive Committee and no action was taken apart from a payment”. “Margaret gave full permission to allow her name to be referenced. ” The accompanying cover letter to the meeting minutes stated, “please find attached the matters arising that will be brought forward to the CLRG meeting on Tuesday night”. It would appear that CLRG were made aware of the corroboration of my allegations on Tuesday, October 18th, 2022, and yet, some ten days later, you wrote to me asking me to submit evidence. Is the corroboration of a former senior member, who dealt with the situation at the time, not enough for CLRG to take action? I fully understand the serious nature of the allegations I have made, that is why I am both shocked and saddened that no tangible steps have been taken by CLRG to deal with the issues at hand. To be clear, your sending of an “invitation” for me to submit evidence, over two weeks after I made the allegations, when at least one of the two alleged incidents was corroborated, 15 days ago, by a former member of An Coiste Faire who was “in the room”, as it were, for the original investigation into the Glasgow incident, cannot be seen as a genuine effort to investigate and deal with the situation The allegations I have made did not bring An Coimisiún into disrepute. The actions of some senior members and the subsequent cover-up by their peers on the Executive of the organization are what brought An Coimisiún into disrepute. The current failure to promptly deal with the perpetrators has further damaged the reputation of An Coimisiún. I have merely shed some light on the situation, in the hope that the reputation of the organization, that myself and my registered colleagues have supported for most of our lives, may be restored. As for An Coiste Faire, as a committee, they have no credibility. CLRG have informed us that the current Chairperson of An Coiste Faire, Carmel Doyle SDCRG, sat on the feis fixing text message evidence from the 28th/29th of July 2022 until late September, when said messages began to circulate on social media. “It was confirmed that the Chairperson of Coiste Faire was the only person from CLRG that was aware of the contents of files dated 28th and 29th July 2022”. It is my understanding that the chairperson is still in situ. Do you really expect those registered with the organization to have any faith that reports they make to An Coiste Faire will be dealt with adequately and in a timely manner? I can state, categorically, that I have no faith, whatsoever, in any committee of CLRG investigating any incidents, whether concerning elected/co-opted members or those registered with the organization. I would like to remind you, Mr. Hewson, of the last time you communicated directly with me, while representing CLRG. It concerned an incident that occurred in Killarney, in February of 2006, regarding then Treasurer of the organization, Mr. Paddy Lambe, who had attempted to defraud me using a forged receipt. I initially reported the incident directly to Francis Curley, who was, at the time, the chairperson of the Coiste Oireachtais, on March 20th, 2006 Having asked several times for the issue to be dealt with, on November 2nd of 2006, some nine months after the attempted fraud had occurred, I wrote to the chairperson of CLRG, in response to a letter I had received. At that time, I was an elected representative for the Leister region. In my letter, I stated the following. “You state that the Oireachtas Committee is adamant that the treasurer was correct in demanding payment from me. I suggest that the Oireachtas Committee reconsider its opinion. I also suggest that Mr. Lambe be removed from the office of treasurer. If this has not occurred by the time An Coimisiún convenes for its next meeting on January 14th, 2007, I will provide the members present with copies of all correspondence relating to this matter and call for the resignation of the entire Oireachtas Committee. Covering up the illegal actions of an officer of the organisation is not good business practice and can only serve to bring the organisation of An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha into disrepute. ” The response I received to that particular letter was sent on December 21st, 2006, and stated. “Another matter in your most recent correspondence disturbed me. That was your suggestion that, should you not get the outcome you desire before the January 14 meeting, you would distribute copies of all correspondence to members of An Coimisiún. I would think that would be a serious breach of procedure and would only serve to put you yourself in a position where a charge of misconduct could be made against you. I can assure you that you will receive a letter from our solicitor, Dermot I’m also curious why CLRG have not made any official statement regarding my recent allegations - they have had more than ample time and opportunity to do so. One could see this as a silent acknowledgment of the accuracy of the incidents I have outlined. Of course, an official statement of denial would look even worse for those in positions of authority and responsibility within the organization, when the complete details of the alleged incidents and the identities of those involved are finally confirmed. In conclusion, I hope this letter sheds some light on why I do not trust the senior members of CLRG to adequately investigate issues or to hold those among their ranks who are guilty of gross misconduct to account. It has been my experience that the only road to accountability on the part of CLRG is to shine a bright and public light on the issues. I believe the people from whom you should be seeking evidence are those who were serving on the Executive of CLRG, the Oireachtas Committee and An Coiste Faire at the time of the incidents that I have alleged, along with those who handled the finances of the organization at those times. Although, sadly, some of these people have passed on, many are still with us and still serving members of CLRG to this day. As I will be sharing this communication with all those registered with CLRG, worldwide, the people involved will, no doubt, receive it.
