Laptop still slow after factory reset Reddit

Hi r/Techsupport I need your help :(! I have an old Alienware m14x gaming laptop that I was trying to use which i havent used in about a year. But it was riddled with a bunch of junk and old games that i use to play and i tried to play a game but my computer couldnt keep up (my wifi is great). I factory reset it and i downloaded the game after, tried to play but its still not up to par as what it should be with its settings and the games system requirements. any idea what could be wrong? THANK YOU, and thank you for your time! smile more! :)

My laptop (spec details below) had been slow for a better part of 2 years now. I got it about 4 years ago and it was great then, but over time has really bugged down. Web pages load, videos load, etc, and generally don't lag too much. Now where I really have issues is just simply playing games. Not games like fortnite, etc, that I know would naturally be slower on a laptop, but games on various websites like armorgames, etc. Any shooter game is impossible because of the lag (i.e. character responds after 5 seconds and will proceed to spend the next 5 seconds running into a wall, etc). Well, I decided I would do a factory reset and start fresh, maybe that will help, right? Nope, not at all. I would run into the same issue on those games, even after I went and updated my drivers.

Now I'm not against spending some money to upgrade some hardware if necessary, but is there anything else I can do? I have all of the original hardware still installed.

Specs:

HP Envy X360 laptop - Model # m6-w010dx

Microprocessor - 2.2GHz 5th generation Intel Core i5-5200U Dual Core

Microprocessor Cache - 3MB L3 Cache

Memory - 8GB DDR3L SDRAM (1 DIMM)

Video Graphics - Intel HD graphics 5500 with up to 3839MB total graphics memory

Hard Drive - 1TB 5400RPM hard drive

My CPU speed seems to run pretty consistently at 0.79 GHz. It will for a second run up to around 1 - 1.4 GHz when loading websites, but then goes right back down to 0.79.

Anyone have any ideas? I can add more info if needed, just let me know.

Hey guys, so I have this weird problem and I really don't know how the hell this happened.

My drives were pretty cluttered and I thought about reformatting, I had some pictures and videos that I wanted to keep so I chose the option to keep the files in the "reset this PC" option in Win 10.

My pc slowed waaay down unfortunately, I feel like everyting takes ages to open. When I try to watch something on youtube or VLC in fullscreen, I get screen tearing and it takes a second to go to fullscreen. Framerates in games dipped down.

I never had this issue before and I'm really at a loss right now, it's frustrating.

These are my speccs: https://imgur.com/a/l5IWClW

What can I do to fix this? Am I better off reformatting completely from scratch?

Hey,

So I was having some lag issues and decided it would be a good idea to reset my mech-15 G3 to factory settings. However, post reset my laptop has been incredibly slow. I ran a pc-bench and all my components seem to be running in the sub-10th percentile. however as far as i know nothing is overheating. I installed all my graphics drivers and swapped off optimus for the benchmark. I'm not quite sure what I'm missing. Ideas?

For the past few months I've been dealing with my laptop being extraordinarily slow (Laptop was bought late 2019, it's an Asus Tuf gaming model) After looking around online I decided to just go through a factory reset (this was 4 months ago), which seemed to have done the trick for about a day. My number one issue has been Steam runs particularly slow, I've followed the troubleshooting guild and nothing works, I open it up, wait for it to load in and as soon as I click anything it goes gray and unresponsive and to add insult to injury it can take up to 5 minutes just to close the program even with task manager. Similar things have been happening on other programs, mainly file explorer and even task manager once. Shits really starting to get to me, anything is greatly appreciated.

HP Pavilion dv6 -- Windows Processor: AMD A8-3500M APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.5GHz Ram: 6GB Computer lags a bunch, I can't even play a flash game with out it jumping a bunch. Minecraft lags as well. However games like Hitman run relatively smooth, with the highest graphics. I finally got fed up with it and did a factory reset. I'm still having the same problems though. My battery is shot, but I always have my laptop plugged in. I imagine the battery would have this big of an effect on my laptop though. Why can't I run such simple programs?

Okay so here's what's happening as the title doesn't really explain it well:

I'm currently on a Dell prebuilt, I literally just finished building my own PC, but this PC is going to my dad.

The problem with this computer is that no matter what I do, it slows down completely and things such as Google Chrome won't open and my downloads folder won't load up. If I do a factory reset, 3-4 days after it slows down again and once again programs won't open.

Does anyone have any idea as to what could be happening? I need this fixed.

Edit: Specs are i7-4770, GTX 645 (OEM), 12Gb DDR3 unnamed RAM, 1 Tb hard drive unnamed.
