Ok. Thank you. Is there a way to purchase ONLY the upgrade and load it from Adobe web site? This is the downside of purchasing new computers. You lose $100's of dollars in programs. I also have PageMaker 7.0 and Photoshop 7.0 I guess they will not work either?

If you have concerns of which apps can run on your Mac, I suggest that you check out the RoaringApps website. You should find it helpful in finding out which apps are compatible with with version of macOS.

InDesign is up to version 14 so that's not the latest software.

InDesign 2.0 is 32 bit. It will not run in macOS 10.15 which is strictly 64 bit.

System requirements look like this for InDesign CC

  • Multicore Intel processor
  • mac OS version 10.13 (High Sierra), macOS version 10.12 (Sierra), or Mac OS X version 10.11 (El Capitan)
  • 2 GB of RAM (8 GB recommended)
  • 2.5 GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices)
  • 1024 x 768 display (1280 x 800 recommended) with 32-bit video card; supports Retina display
  • Optional: To use GPU Performance, your Mac should have a minimum of 1024 MB of VRAM (2 GB recommended), and your computer must support OpenGL version 4.0 or greater.
  • Supported machines
  •   iMac 4K
  •   iMac 5K
  •   MacBook Pro Retina
  •     Mac Pro connected to a HiDPI monitor
    •   Mac mini connected to a HiDPI monitor
    • To check for VRAM value, choose Mac > About This Mac (Graphics information).
    • To find out if your computer supports the required OpenGL version (4.0 or later), see this Apple Support document.
  • Adobe® Flash® Player 10 software required to export SWF files.
  • Internet connection and registration are necessary for required software activation, validation of subscriptions, and access to online services.†

The only apps I could find on this website were secondary versions of the Photoshop and NOT Photoshop 7.0

PageMaker is not listed.

roaring apps is hit or miss. if a user finds they can open a jpeg in photoshop they can report all of the adobe suite works in their OS. take the findings here with a grain of salt. I work in an environment where I support designers on legacy versions of InDesign and when new macs were ordered and the ability to downgrade is not an option we ran into issues with some functions, others were fine. Photoshop seems to be the most forgiving, Illustrator and InDesign not nearly as much.

AFAIK Adobe offers a 1 year prepaid subscription for InDesign for $240, but if you're a student you can get it for less.

https://www.adobe.com/products/indesign/pricing-info.html

you may also consider Scribus, which is totally free and updated regularly, you can even use it for commercial projects.

https://www.scribus.net

They may have tutorials on the web, I don't know much about it other than like the rest of us they probably hate Adobe for the constant shakedowns.

If memory serves PS7 was released in the early 2000's and may be 32 bit only. In which case it wont run in 10.15 but may run in ealirier versions of macOS and OSX using Apples JAVA 6

https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572?locale=en_US

and by run it may be basic funtions work great, higher functions are iffy.

Thank you for all the advice and for taking the time to answer my questions. I absolutely loved PageMaker and will never understand why they forced InDesign on us. InDesign is very complicated compared to PageMaker and does about the same thing. Why do companies try to FIX things that are NOT BROKEN. You had a good thing going . . . . and you changed it.

LOL. Can you get PageMaker back on the market?

I could do anything in that program. Absolutely loved it. I worked in Pagemaker every day for over 18 years. InDesign to me is 1/2 PageMaker and 1/2 Photoshop.

It's like trying to create layouts and type with gloves on your hands.

And then there is the 64-bit, non-subscription, Affinity Publisher, which is in the Mac App Store for $49.99 USD and don't let the low price dissuade you from thinking it does not measure up to InDesign. Affinity also offers this application as a free trial from their website. One document format shared between three Affinity applications and the ability to export to PDF/X versions because they are not using Apple's PDF library.

Disclaimer: I own Affinity Designer, Photo, and Publisher, yet receive no benefit from Affinity for product recommendation.
