Mazda cx-5 2022 vs 2023

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 is the most refined iteration of the best-selling Mazda model. It gets the same powertrains as its predecessors – a base 2.5-liter Skyactiv®2.5-G inline 4-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque and a turbocharged 2.5-liter Skyactiv®2.5-G Turbo 4-cylinder engine that produces up to 250 hp and 320 pound-feet of torque. However, this time around, the Mazda CX-5 gets standard i-ACTIV® AWD across all trims and a new Mazda Intelligent Drive Select technology (Mi-Drive) with new drive modes. The 2022 Mazda CX-5 2.5 Turbo models get a redesigned front grille with 19-inch alloy wheels and matching body-colored lower bumper and wheel arches. The rest of the features remain unchanged.

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 comes at a starting MSRP of $25,370 and will be available in winter 2021.

2023 Mazda CX-50

Mazda cx-5 2022 vs 2023

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is an entirely new model, featuring an all-new rugged design aesthetic that’s never been seen before in any Mazda CX model. If you’re an adventurous person who loves to explore nature and off-roads ever so often, then the CX-50 is an excellent option for you. It’s got a wider stance than the 2022 Mazda CX-5 and looks more adventure-ready because of its rugged exterior.

That said, the 2023 Mazda CX-50 is still a unibody crossover based on the same platform as the Mazda CX-5. However, it is longer and offers more passenger space and cargo volume. The CX-50 also has a higher ground clearance and a rugged style with black plastic cladding around the wheel wells. It also gets skid plate-like front and rear bumpers for added off-road appeal and protection. Plus, you can customize it from a range of rugged accessories, including hood graphics, a roof rack, and all-terrain tires.

Mazda hasn’t revealed much about the available engines on the CX-50, but it will get the same engines as the Mazda CX-5 at launch. However, a hybrid powertrain is underway. These engines come paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, and the Mazda CX-50 will also feature standard i-ACTIV® AWD and Mi-Drive technology. But it will feature a heavy-duty all-wheel-drive coupling with a larger clutch and a new off-road driving mode for off-roading.

While the Mazda CX-5 can tow up to 2,000 pounds when properly equipped, expect the 2023 Mazda CX-50 to have more towing capacity because of its off-road roots. The first-ever 2023 Mazda CX-50 also debuts some first-ever features for Mazda, which include a new panoramic sunroof.

Mazda cx-5 2022 vs 2023

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 will be the first Mazda vehicle built at the Mazda-Toyota Manufacturing plant in Huntsville, AL. Pricing for the Mazda CX-50 hasn’t been revealed yet. However, it will probably cost a few thousand more than the 2022 Mazda CX-5 and arrive at dealerships in spring 2022.
