Over the past decade or so, fans of the Oregon Ducks have gotten used to the idea of a marquee nonconference matchup. It always comes with risk — playing a premiere team early in the year has the chance to knock you off of the tracks and derail your year, but also offers an opportunity for early momentum. Show
Whether it’s teams like the Oklahoma Sooners, LSU Tigers, Auburn Tigers, Michigan State Spartans, or Ohio State Buckeyes, the Ducks have shown over the years that they won’t shy away from the best of the best when it comes to nonconference games. That goes double for this year’s matchup with the defending champion Georgia Bulldogs on the schedule. The marquee matchups won’t stop after this year, though. With nonconference schedules in college football, teams often look years in advance and set up home-and-homes with other top teams in the nation (usually). For the Ducks, things have been scheduled as far out as 2033. The Ducks will play four teams that were in the 2022 NCAA Tournament at home (San Diego, UCLA, Oregon State and Stanford) and a two-game midweek series with Gonzaga also at PK Park. “We are very excited about our 2023 schedule,” Oregon coach Mark Wasikowski said in a statement. “Featuring the 2023 University of Oregon team at PK Park 35 times including against traditional conference champions and high-RBI schools will give fans a tremendous opportunity to see the best college baseball team in person here in Eugene. Every week of our spring season will have at least one home contest. We really like our 2023 Duck baseball team and are looking forward to playing against the nation’s best here at PK Park.” The Ducks open the season with a four-game series against Xavier (Feb. 17-20) before traveling to UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 24-26).
